Self-Care Sabbatical

I had 0 intentions of taking a self-care sabbatical last year. Honestly. In fact, I had lots and lots in store for for 2018. However, it seems that the Universe was determined for me to deter my focus to other areas of my life.

I decided not to fight it as indeed, I needed to focus on other projects.

Looking back, I’m actually appreciative of this unplanned pausing. It just goes to show that things don’t always work out how you plan and you can never go wrong with a little self care as I’ve mentioned in my blog post here.

My life had been pretty full with the launch of a new aspect of our business, the influx of production projects, health issues and writer’s block, I just really needed a breather. You would not believe how many times in my ‘spare’ moments, I’ve sat down with my laptop at home or my favourite cafe and stared at the blank page. Sometimes just one sentence. ONE! Of course, it was gibberish.

On the plus side, I’ve finally found my caffeinated drink of choice! Am I the only one who feels intimidated at the coffee counter? So many drinks and so many annoyed stares.

Honestly, I didn’t expect my absence to go further than a month but sh*t happens but I missed you guys so much and I missed writing. I was making so much progress but sh*t happens and we just have to deal.

However, I’ve been working out the kinks in balancing all the craziness and the blog. With that said, I’m officially back and I can’t wait to hear back from you guys. Many of you have reached out to me during my absence and I love you all for that.

I have a lot planned for the blog so keep sticking with me.

Nuff Love,

I’ve Been Nominated For An Award

The Blogger Recognition Award

Happy Weekend Guys!!!

If you’re following me on Twitter, then you guys are aware that I’ve been on vacation for two weeks…whoo hoo! And during the vacay, I decided to restart my fitness journey which has been super difficult.

Exercise is fudging hard! While nursing my sore muscles, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was nominated for The Blogger Recognition Award.

What is the Blogger Recognition Award?

The Blogger Recognition Award is given to bloggers by bloggers who appreciate the hard work, dedication and vast amount of hours we all put into every post, as well as keeping the website current and updated. I was nominated by my girl Sayward who blogs over Saynthings. Thank you so much for nominating me, I am honoured to be included on your list of bloggers. Her blog is amazing so go check her out guys!

How My Blog Got Started

For years I wanted to start a blog, but I always quit after writing the first post. In January of this year, I started thinking toying with the idea again, and my significant other told me to do it. In February, I wrote my first post, and here we are.

The origin of the name took me awhile but finally; I decided to make it a combination of my first and last name. For months, I tried coming up with a niche, and I realized that a lifestyle blog would be the perfect fit.

After getting my groove, I redesigned and transferred my blog from Wix to self-hosted WordPress and relaunched in August.

Two Advice For New Bloggers

Blogging can be overwhelming. When I first started, I was so confused. Talks of SEOs, Instagram Algorithms, DAs had me ready to run to the hills.

  1. Patience – When you first start out, you’ll likely think that things will just happen and your blog will be a success overnight. Blogging is hard work, and there are no shortcuts. Just be patient and trust the process, it may seem easier to give up, but if you’re passionate about your blog, then you’ll put the work in. I had several moments where I was intimidated and jealous by the success of other bloggers and whining to my SO asking,’When will it be my turn?’
  2. Be yourself!- I can’t stress this enough. You will admire other bloggers and think that emulating their style will help your blog, but you’re only hurting yourself and your brand. Every day there is someone new creating a blog, but they aren’t you. Find your voice and be confident in your writing.

Bonus advice

Have fun! It is a job, but it is also an extension of you. If you aren’t passionate or genuine about your content, then your readers will spot that a mile away.

The rules say that I should nominate 15 other bloggers, but I have my top six. I’ve come across many talented bloggers, whose works I love so it was really difficult choosing.

  1. Reflection of Des
  2. Irie Diva
  3. 876 Lover
  4. The Sarai Ashari
  5. Ms Sparkle And Glow
  6. Mr. Gray

Join some Facebook groups, interact with your fellow bloggers on Twitter, Instagram etc. and learn more about them and their work.

Until next time. Nuff Love, Sheviimc.

I’m Blogging….No Seriously

Oh hi!! Didn’t see you there.

Welcome to my Blog.

My name is Shevoneese aka SheviiMc.

After years of debating the idea to blog and signing up for many, many, many free blogs on Blogspot, WordPress, Penzu and, I’ve finally made it to this point….writing my first post! *Cues victorious music*

It took me a while to get to this phase but I’m excited to be sharing this journey with my readers.

About Me

Like most of you, I’m in my twenties and I’m a pro-Netflix binger. I spend 30% of my paycheck on nuggets and tech that I rarely use from Amazon. While, living in the beautiful island of Jamaica, trying to survive the 9-5 job cycle, I still find time to enjoy pranks (even when they’re on me), to laugh at myself, manage a photography business with my partner and appreciate the small things.

I graduated from The University of the West Indies Mona in 2014 with a BA in Journalism. Why Journalism?

I wanted to be on TV duh!

Just kidding.

I’ve always admired the confidence and gusto journalists have to get to the bottom of a story. My journalistic dreams are currently on hold as I now work as a Media Assistant at a Digital Signage company.

My main goal in life….to be happy

….. to be more knowledgeable about my culture, and to become a renowned journalist and media and communication practitioner.

Welcome to the beginning….
